DApps (or decentralized-apps) are some of these ‘other’ applications, running on the Ethereum platform. With example blogging platforms or games, it’s a good place to understand how the blockchain can be used especially because many of them are open source.

<Besides Bitcoin, how are things moving for the blockchain in finance? Chicago’s Northern Trust (NASDAQ: NTRS) and IBM are using the blockchain to automate some of the time consuming and expensive processes associated with private equity administration. It is claimed to be the ‘first commercial deployment of blockchain technology for the private equity market’. With just four nodes at this time – in comparison, Bitcoin has 6000 nodes – it’ll hopefully serve to increase the markets trust in blockchain based solutions.
